levyhgb's Recovering The Scion - Part 1 and 2

This edit is fixed with TR1 music and hi-res window display support.
After 5 days of trial and (more) error to learn which files are necessary,
I reduced their count to 33. Bin one more and you break this level pack.
To play it:
- in classic DOS mode - run TOMB_DOS_BASIC_START_HERE
- in DOS mode with glide (enhanced graphics) - run TOMB_DOS_GLIDE_START_HERE
(I tried to apply tombati.exe but failed - you may try but you need Treeble's GLRage pack not included in this download - check Unofficial Custom Level Forum thread on forum.trle.net)

Notice files dosbox.conf and tr_glide.conf, also in the DOSBOX folder.
They can edit game setup for basic and enhanced mode respectively.
Both files have identical options to set with true/false, on/off, values etc.
Usually you just change fullscreen=, fullresolution=, windowresolution=.
There's also a vsync part, maybe it works but I didn't see a difference.
glide.ini file has Resolution= field, set it to match width of the .conf one.

Below I left previous authors notes, for I respect our priceless history.
Same as I wouldn't destroy a Sumerian tablet found on Iraqi desert.

PREVIOUS READMES (ANCIENT EVIDENCE OF OUR LONG BRAVE HISTORY)

To play Tomb Raider, click on the \DOSBOX folder to enter it. Start the game from the \DOSBOX folder. At the bottom see the .bat files--

START_DOSBOX_TR1_.bat
START_DOSBOX_TR1-GLIDE.bat (enhanced graphics)

1) To start a normal low graphics game of Tomb Raider click on the first choice. (It used to be that one had to hit F1 to make Tomb Raider go into supervga mode, but DOSBox should now take care of that automatically.) If there is no sound, exit Tomb Raider. There should be a C: prompt. Type SETUP. Allow the sound card to be auto detected, and accept default choices that are given for the sound card. At the C: prompt, type TOMB to play the game.

One advantage is that this is an SVN DOSBox build with an interactive menu on top. It is easy to change window resolution to say 1024x768. Other parameters can be tweaked on the fly, although most of the default settings should work. Use Ctrl-F11 to reduce the cycles if Lara is overly responsive to a key press (use Ctrl-F12 to increase cycles, and improve performance). On my computer I found the game was too quick, so I edited the configuration file with "cycles=auto limit 84000" to make play more like I remembered from DOS.

2) To start a game in full screen Glide click on the second choice. The graphics will be better, so a wall cartouche looks like it has rounded corners, instead of a pixilated edge. Note that a configuration file TR_glide.conf is being used. Here fullscreen=true and fullresolution=1280x960, which is a double of the Glide resolution of 640x480, so there should be no distortion. A batch file starts TOMB-V.EXE, which is a patched Voodoo Rush Tomb Raider. There is no menu bar at the screen top, but you can still adjust cycles, using Ctrl-F11 to lower cycles.

__________

I originally tested this with http://ykhwong.x-y.net/ download SVN DOSBox of May 21, 2012. Later tests with the November 10, 2012 and February 5, 2013 SVN DOSBox failed completely for Glide in Tomb Raider 1. Therefore this uses the May 21, 2012 version, the only one that worked for me.

Pro-Zac

This is the crack for the NEW 3DFX TOMB.EXE file,
(released 2-13-97) which includes anti-aliasing and
mip-mapping (where far away objects become clearer).

This will eliminate the CD check.....BUT any music
CD will still play if you have it in the drive!
(Not necessarily needed)

!! This file is only for those of you who !!
!! have a 3DFX chipset on your video card !!
!! Orchid 3D and Diamond Monster 3D !!

I don't have a 3DFX card, but I'm sure that this will
work like a charm. Please let me know how it works.

How to use the 3Dfx Patch :

The zip file contains a file "tomb.exe". This needs
to be placed on your hard drive in the directory where
  you installed the game.

Mip Mapping has been implemented; its purpose is to
make distant objects more clear. It can be turned on/off
in the game by hitting F4 (in-game) or clicking on the
sunglasses icon in the menu rings; by default Mip Mapping
is set to ON. If you wish to turn Mip Mapping OFF, use the
sunglasses icon. Your selection will be saved as well as
applied: ie when you play another game, Mip Mapping will
  remain OFF.

Blah, blah, blah....this is for educational
purposes only....blah, blah. Using it is not-so-
legal....blah, blah. If you like this game, buy
it. Eidos deserves the cash!
